A retreat for YOU, a time to take a break away from daily life, relax, unwind, practice yoga, nurture yourself in the peace and calm of Casa Tota and immerse yourself in the sights, sounds, food, culture - all that Goa has to offer!!
The Retreat: is ideal for someone who wants to take time out from daily life, practice yoga and have the opportunity to explore the sights, food and culture of this vibrant and lively area of Goa. Casa Tota: We will be staying at Casa Tota a beautiful private home where you can relax and unwind in the peace and calm of the gardens and quite places Goa: Goa’s biggest draw is undoubtedly its virtually uninterrupted string of golden-sand beaches from the expansive groomed sands in front of five-star resorts to hidden crescent coves, where the only footprints will be the scuttling crabs and your own. Goa is more than beaches though, it’s a kaleidoscopic blend of Indian and Portuguese cultures, sweetened with sun, sea, sand, seafood and spirituality. The Portuguese arrived in Goa in 1510, lured by the exotic East and the promise of lucrative spice routes. Their indelible mark is still evident in the state’s baroque architecture, whitewashed churches, crumbling forts, colourful Catholic ceremonies, mournful fado music and the stunning cathedrals of Old Goa. Accommodation
We will be staying in the village of Assagao at Casa Tota a 150-year-old Portuguese villa that's been lovingly restored and refurbished into a bright, Bollywood-dusted retreat, complete with a central courtyard which includes dining areas and a decorative water feature. The villa gets its name from the parrots in the surrounding trees, but it gets its design leanings from slightly further afield: Antonia Graham, of British furniture and design store Graham and Green owns the property, and G&G's touch is everywhere.
Housekeeper Shyam is super-friendly and will prepare breakfast for us as well as help with local directions and transport. Breakfast is simple tea or coffee, fruit, muesli and yogurt, eggs, fresh bread rolls, with butter and jams. Fried eggs and omelettes are easy for Shyam, boiled, poached and scrambled are a little more hit or miss :-) His Masala omelettes are popular, but may take longer to prepare!! |
ActivitiesThere will be two Yoga practices each day. An energising morning practice before breakfast and a relaxing sunset practice.
The rest of the day you are free to relax in the gardens, verandas or beautiful internal spaces of Casa Tota read, chill or simply spend some time in reflection. For times when you want to get out and about you can catch a local bus to Mapusa a local town with a great market. The market is open daily but Fridays are particularly special! Visit the beach resorts of Anjuna and Vagator or the northern beaches of Morjim or Assvemare. Assvemare has some good beach huts where you can spend time relaxing and enjoying some very good food and Anjuna is also famous for hippie market bliss! Panjim, the capital of Goa is 45 minutes away with it’s cathedral and many shops to explore.
